Domenico Bellantone: chi è il nuovo Console Generale d'Italia a Londra?
Si è insediato da poco il nuovo Console Generale d'Italia a Londra. Ad essere stato nominato è Domenico Bellantone e fin da subito ha voluto specificare che il suo impegno per rendere accessibili ed efficienti i servizi del Consolato sarà massimo. Ma chi è Domenico Bellantone?
Nato a Reggio Calabria il 20 Settembre 1972 ha dimostrato fin da subito il suo interesse per la cosa pubblica. A 24 anni infatti completa gli studi universitari e si laurea con lode in Relazioni Internazionali, presso l’Università “LUISS Guido Carli” di Roma. Quattro anni dopo, nel 2000, decide di intraprendere la carriera diplomatica occupandosi di contenzioso comunitario e del processo di riforma dei Trattati UE, presso l’Ufficio Affari Giuridici ed Istituzionali della Direzione Generale per l’Integrazione Europea del Ministero degli Affari Esteri. Tra il 1997 e il 1998 è stato anche Ufficiale di Complemento della Guardia di Finanza.
Proprio da quel 2000 comincia la sua attività a tempo pieno nelle Istituzioni, con incarichi sempre più rilevanti: dopo l'esperienza al Ministero degli Esteri, nel 2004, è assegnato all’Ambasciata d’Italia in Libia, con funzioni di Responsabile dell’Ufficio Culturale, per poi assumere quelle di Capo dell’Ufficio Economico-Commerciale. Nel 2008 ricopre l’incarico di Responsabile dell’Ufficio Politica Estera, presso l’Ambasciata d’Italia in Egitto e qui vi resta fino al 2011, quando ritorna all’Ambasciata d’Italia in Libia con funzioni di Consigliere e Vice Capo Missione. Gli anni trascorsi in Egitto e in Libia gli consentono di confrontarsi e misurarsi con il fenomeno della "Primavera Araba", assistendo da vicino agli stravolgimenti che hanno abbattuto i regimi di Mubarak e Gheddafi.
Rientra a Roma nel 2013 per fare lo "speech writer" al Gabinetto del Ministero degli Esteri e in quell'anno viene nominato Cavaliere dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica. Appena 3 anni dopo diventa Capo della Segreteria del Segretario di Stato agli Affari Esteri, Vincenzo Amendola. Dopo qualche anno in Patria, però, decide di ripartire nel 2018, per accettare l'incarico di Primo Consigliere all’Ambasciata d’Italia negli Stati Uniti: qui, in qualità di Capo dell’Ufficio Affari Consolari e Sociali, coordina la più grande rete consolare che l'Italia ha all'estero. Lavora con 8 Consolati Generali, un Consolato di Prima Classe, una Cancelleria Consolare, 31 Consolati Onorari e 35 Corrispondenti Consolari.
Dopo questa esperienza degna di nota ha assunto le funzioni di Console Generale d’Italia a Londra il 23 Agosto di quest'anno.

DOMENICO BELLANTONE: WHO'S THE NEW CONSUL GENERAL OF ITALY IN LONDON?
The new Consul General of Italy has recently taken office in London. Domenico Bellantone was appointed and he immediately wanted to specify that his commitment to make the Consulate’s services accessible and efficient will be maximum. But who is Domenico Bellantone?
Born in Reggio Calabria on 20 September 1972, he immediately showed his interest in public affairs. At the age of 24 he completed his university studies and graduated with honors in International Relations, at the University "LUISS Guido Carli" of Rome. Four years later, in 2000, he decided to pursue a diplomatic career dealing with litigation and the process of reform of the EU Treaties, at the Office for Legal and Institutional Affairs of the Directorate-General for European Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1997 and 1998 he was also an Auxiliary Officer of the Guardia di Finanza.
From that very year he began his full-time activity in the Institutions, with increasingly important assignments: after the experience at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2004, he was assigned to the Embassy of Italy in Libya, with the functions of Head of the Cultural Office, to become then the Head of the Economic and Commercial Office. In 2008 he held the position of Head of the Foreign Policy Office at the Italian Embassy in Egypt and here he remained until 2011, when he returned to the Italian Embassy in Libya as Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission. The years spent in Egypt and Libya allow him to confront and measure himself with the phenomenon of the "Arab Spring", witnessing closely the upheavals that have overthrown the regimes of Mubarak and Gaddafi.
He returned to Rome in 2013 to do the "speech writer" at the Cabinet of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in that year he was appointed Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic. Just 3 years later he became Head of the Secretariat of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola. However after a few years in his homeland he decided to leave again in 2018, to accept the role of First Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in the United States: here, as Head of the Office for Consular and Social Affairs, he coordinates the largest consular network that Italy has abroad. He works with 8 General Consulates, a First Class Consulate, a Consular Chancellery, 31 Honorary Consulates and 35 Consular Correspondents.
After this remarkable experience he assumed the functions of Consul General of Italy in London on 23 August this year.
