Italian academics promotes awareness for new emerging online illegal and dangerous drugs
Presented a Parliamentary inter group Project at the Palace of Westminster. The project of the All Parliamentary Party Group on Emerging Drugs and their "online" diffusion was presented In the setting of the "Jubilee Room" of the House of Commons; Chaired and conceived by the Professor of Addiction Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire, the British/Italian Ornella Corazza, and by the member of the British Parliament and former Crime Undersecretary Lord John Taylor of Holbeach, who in his introduction invited the various members of Parliament present to join the project.
The event and the project are supported by the Private Secretary to the UK Justice Secretary, the Honourable Gareth Bacon MP, who hoped this would be the first in a series of events which would allow politicians to highlight issues emerging from academic research in Parliament and to disseminate the results through the media. Professor Corazza then explained the reasons why an inter-parliamentary group is important for exposing to the political world a relatively new phenomenon which she herself was the first to highlight in 2000 and she personally communicated the alarming increase at the recent hearing in the British Parliament for the Commission of the Ministry of the Interior.
The other members of the highly qualified group of speakers were the Italian/British professor in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Fabrizio Schifano who highlighted the fact that many new drugs are not easily identified by urine tests and presented the discovery of 120 substances similar to prescription drugs and about 400 illegal synthetic opioids (substances made from the opium poppy) that are sometimes extremely potent and lethal.
Professor Owen Bowden-Jones, UK Government adviser on drug disuse, explained that this high number of new drugs create new after-use effects which then prove difficult to treat. Professor in Social Psychology Lambros Lazuras highlighted how these new drugs are also finding space in the world of sport, both at an amateur and competitive level.
Present in the audience at the event were various politicians including Baroness Anna Healy of Primrose Hill, Baroness Doreen Lawrence and various representatives of social associations interested in the topic under discussion. The University of Hertfordshire, which supported the event, was represented by the Deputy Chancellor for Research, Professor John Senior, and the Chair of the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine, Richard Southern.
The event was organised by the British/Italian political strategist Chris Vinante Giovannini, who takes care of the structural operations of the project on behalf of the University and parliamentary representatives.

Nella cornice della "Jubilee Room" della Camera dei Comuni è stato presentato il progetto dell'All Parliamentary Party Group on Emerging Drugs e la loro diffusione "online"; Presieduto e ideato dalla professoressa di Scienze delle dipendenze dell'Università dell'Hertfordshire, l'italo-britannica Ornella Corazza, e dal membro del Parlamento britannico ed ex sottosegretario alla criminalità Lord John Taylor di Holbeach, che nella sua introduzione ha invitato i vari parlamentari presenti per aderire al progetto.
L'evento e il progetto sono sostenuti dal segretario privato del segretario alla giustizia del Regno Unito, l'onorevole Gareth Bacon MP, che ha auspicato che questo sia il primo di una serie di eventi che consentano ai politici di evidenziare le questioni emerse dalla ricerca accademica in Parlamento e di diffondere i risultati attraverso i media. La professoressa Corazza ha poi spiegato le ragioni per cui un gruppo interparlamentare è importante per esporre al mondo politico un fenomeno relativamente nuovo che lei stessa ha evidenziato per prima nel 2000 e ha comunicato personalmente l'allarmante aumento alla recente audizione al Parlamento britannico per la Commissione del Ministero dell'Interno.
Gli altri componenti del qualificato gruppo di relatori erano il professore italo-britannico di Farmacologia Clinica e Terapeutica Fabrizio Schifano che ha evidenziato come molti nuovi farmaci non siano facilmente identificabili dai test delle urine e ha presentato la scoperta di 120 sostanze simili a farmaci da prescrizione e circa 400 oppioidi sintetici illegali (sostanze ricavate dal papavero da oppio) a volte estremamente potenti e letali.
Il professor Owen Bowden-Jones, consigliere del governo britannico per il disuso di droghe, ha spiegato che questo numero elevato di nuove droghe crea nuovi effetti dopo l'uso che poi si rivelano difficili da trattare. Il Professore di Psicologia Sociale Lambros Lazuras ha evidenziato come queste nuove droghe stiano trovando spazio anche nel mondo dello sport, sia a livello amatoriale che agonistico.
Tra il pubblico dell'evento erano presenti vari politici tra cui la Baronessa Anna Healy di Primrose Hill, la Baronessa Doreen Lawrence e vari rappresentanti di associazioni sociali interessate al tema in discussione. L'Università dell'Hertfordshire, che ha sostenuto l'evento, era rappresentata dal Vice Cancelliere per la Ricerca, Professor John Senior, e dal Presidente del Dipartimento di Scienze della Vita e Medicina, Richard Southern.
L'evento è stato organizzato dallo stratega politico italo-britannico Chris Vinante Giovannini, che si occupa delle operazioni strutturali del progetto per conto dell'Università e dei rappresentanti parlamentari.
