Lee Walters nominato nuovo presidente di BAFTA Cymru
BAFTA ha annunciato la nomina di Lee Walters come nuovo Presidente della filiale gallese dell’organizzazione, BAFTA Cymru. Walters, attualmente Amministratore Delegato di Ffilm Cymru Wales, succede alla presentatrice pluripremiata Angharad Mair, che ha ricoperto il ruolo per nove anni.
Fondata oltre 35 anni fa, BAFTA Cymru ha l’obiettivo di sostenere, celebrare e coltivare il talento creativo in Galles. Come Presidente, Walters guiderà il comitato consultivo dell’organizzazione, formato da leader del settore e professionisti creativi, che aiuteranno a indirizzare le attività di BAFTA Cymru. Queste includono i prestigiosi BAFTA Cymru Awardse un ricco programma di eventi volti a supportare i creativi in Galles e ispirare le nuove generazioni, tra cui proiezioni, workshop e l’assegnazione delle Prince William BAFTA bursaries. Walters fa parte del comitato di BAFTA Cymru dall’aprile 2023.
Lo scorso ottobre, i BAFTA Cymru Awards hanno celebrato 42 produzioni, tra cui Y Frwydr: Stori Anabledd, Ser Steilio, Steeltown Murders e Strike! The Women Who Fought Back, dimostrando la ricchezza e la diversità dell’industria gallese dello schermo. Lee Walters announced as the new Chair of BAFTA Cymru
Walters will lead the organization’s advisory committee, composed of industry professionals
BAFTA has announced the appointment of Lee Walters as the new Chair of its Welsh branch, BAFTA Cymru. Walters, currently Chief Executive Officer at Ffilm Cymru Wales, will succeed award-winning television presenter Angharad Mair, who held the position for nine years.
Established over 35 years ago, BAFTA Cymru is dedicated to supporting, celebrating, and nurturing creative talent in Wales. As Chair, Walters will lead the BAFTA Cymru Committee, an advisory group of industry leaders and creative professionals who help shape the organization’s work. This includes the prestigious BAFTA Cymru Awards and a year-round programme of events designed to support creatives in Wales and inspire the next generation, including screenings, workshops, and the distribution of Prince William BAFTA bursaries. Walters has been a member of the BAFTA Cymru Committee since April 2023.
In October, the BAFTA Cymru Awards celebrated 42 programmes and films, including Y Frwydr: Stori Anabledd, Ser Steilio, Steeltown Murders, and Strike! The Women Who Fought Back, showcasing the breadth and depth of the Welsh screen industries. Earlier this year, BAFTA also partnered with the Cardiff Townhouse Coppa Club, providing BAFTA Cymru members with a creative space to network and collaborate year-round.
Lee Walters is a prominent figure in the Welsh creative industries. Since 2023, he has led Ffilm Cymru Wales, overseeing areas such as film development and production, skills and training, film exhibition, and environmental sustainability.
With over 15 years at the BBC, culminating in his role as Senior Change Manager for the establishment of the BBC Wales headquarters in Cardiff, Walters later joined Cardiff University as Programme Manager for the innovative Clwstwr project. He also worked as Senior Producer and Fund Manager for Media Cymru, managing R&D delivery and funding competitions.
Commenting on his appointment, Walters said: "I feel hugely privileged to be succeeding Angharad Mair as Chair of BAFTA Cymru. Throughout her tenure, Angharad has been a real champion for the industry and the talent we have here in Wales, and I look forward to continuing that mission.
